Who We Are

Hi – I’m Julie Brooks.  I have owned and operated Spicewood K9 Club since 2009 and Hill Country K9 Club since 2018.  I have almost 10 years experience working each day to provide dog boarding and dog daycare services in Central Texas.  In June 2018, I relocated to Center Point, TX (from Spicewood) to provide dog boarding, dog daycare, pet sitting services to Kerrville, Center Point, Bandera, Comfort, Boerne, Fredericksburg, Sisterdale and surrounding areas.  Because my customers have sought out my unique type of dog boarding and dog daycare service and sometimes are not close enough to my location to drop off or pickup their dogs at my place, I offer Pick-Up and Delivery services. I am excited that I still care for customers dogs as far as Austin, Spicewood, Bee Cave, Lakeway because those customers after having used my services for almost 9 years still want me to care for their dogs and they are willing to work with my schedule to meet me with their dogs or allow me to pickup on dates that work best for me.  Thank you!

For almost 11 years, I have kept my business small and only use people that I have known for a long time and have the right experience to help me at the K9 Club.  I think that it is important to be particular about who cares for your dogs and I would not want it any other way for my own dogs.  Most of the time, I am the person caring for your dogs.

I love dogs and have a very strong intuition about them.  Over the past 11 years I have developed some pretty great doggie skills.  These are some things I’m really good at:

Determining if a dog is able to do well in a social play atmosphere with other dogs

Managing a large pack of dogs during play – watching for signs of unwanted behaviors, etc

Being the alpha dog in the pack – a lot of the dogs that come have been coming for years – they recognize me as their leader

When I am not caring for your dogs, they are being cared for by my handsome husband Ashley Brooks  or one of our other local family members who all  have years of experience caring for and handling dogs for me and for their own families.  All of these individuals love dogs at least as much as I do!

Before I had this business, I was a mechanical engineer working in the semiconductor industry in Austin. It was a great gig – but it wasn’t that much FUN and did not give me the freedom in my schedule to do things I love.  Plus I didn’t get to hang out with dogs 24/7.  Now I do! Couldn’t be happier with that blessing.

We attend Ridin’ The River Cowboy Fellowship (www.ridintheriver.com) located between Bandera and Camp Verde near our home in Center Point.  We love this church because they offer the ability to Worship, Walk, Work & Witness for Christ’s mission – making disciples in the world.

Why We Do It

We do it because we love dogs.  That’s it really in a nutshell.  I have always loved dogs and I always will.  My brother says if there’s a stray dog in the county, it will find me. That’s okay with me – dogs are really more enjoyable than people right?  But we love people too – we just don’t want them to stay overnight with us.  We’d rather care for their dogs.

We do it because we know dogs need places to stay that do not look like lonely, stressful, secluded kennels with small amounts of time being let out to relieve themselves, and just returned to a small area to wait for their owner’s return.  My own dogs did not do well in these environments.  I would pick them up and they would have no “voice” left – I figure that’s because they barked the whole time barking at other dogs who were stressed out.  They would tear their beds into tiny pieces because they were bored to death – they were stressed and they missed people and other dogs.  No stimulus, No Sunshine, No Play, No Exercise, No FUN!  Maybe good for other dogs – mine hated that atmosphere.

I found it very hard to find a place where I would leave my beloved dog for an overnight stay or daycare. I am picky and I know you are too. I wanted my dog to be safe and have fun and not be bored or stressed out. We are blessed to provide a place where we take pride in what we offer to your doggie. Exercise and socialization are key to developing a dog that is wonderful to be around. Without socialization, dogs worlds become small and they cannot go places with their families or have fun with other dogs – that is a huge limitation for a dog and it limits where humans can take their dogs and how integrated in their lives their dogs can become. If your dog only hangs out with humans, they are forced to exist with “aliens” that do not speak their language or act like them. Guess what – you’re not a dog no matter how hard you try! The result is insecurity and fear. Without exercise, dogs become unhealthy, obsessive, destructive, overweight, bored and depressed. Being outside with other dogs and humans lifts a dogs spirits – it is just plain good form and exactly where they belong. Consider this unique OFF-LEASH experience for your dog – we will improve his/her socialization skills – we do it everyday!
